Home Insurance

Our homes are normally our most valuable purchase, but many are inadequately insured for the eventualities that may befall them. Many people may have Home Insurance policies but when they try to claim, find that their coverage is insuffiecient. Ask yourself the following questions:

  • Is your home insured?
  • Is it adequately covered?
  • Is your home at risk from flooding or damage from other events?
  • Are your contents covered?
  • Do you know how and for what you can claim?

If the answer to any of these questions is no or not sure then you need advice. Seaway Insurance can help.

Building and contects insurance available from Seaway Insurance

As insurance brokers we offer cover from across the market place and use insurance companies that we believe offer cover that is competitive at a reasonable cost and we endeavour to match the Home Insurance cover on offer to the requirement of each client.

We also offer our own design of house and contents insurance which we believe is unique in the country. This is underwritten by AXA and offers insurance on your house based on the square footage of the property with unlimited cover. Therefore in the event of a valid claim it is the insurer’s problem to reinstate the property irrespective of the cost.

In addition, we offer discounts, as most policies do, for age, security, size of risk, house and contents cover together, smoke detectors, no claims, neighbourhood watch and if appropriate taking a franchise on top of the standard excess.

What is a Franchise? – our policies carry a standard excess, which means that you pay the first £50 of any claim. However, most people will not bother to claim until the cost gets somewhat higher. Of course, if you do claim, then your ‘no claim discount’ of about 25% of the premium is lost. It takes three years to replace this and over that time it will cost roughly an additional £50 a year on your premium. Therefore we suggest that you do not claim up to £150. This means taking a £100 franchise on top of the excess. However at £151, the £100 franchise drops off and you just pay the £50 excess. In return we give a discount on your premium.

Household Insurance is a very competitive market and there are now many direct insurers offering policies. However, the reason to use a broker is to seek the most appropriate cover for your needs and to have someone available to help if a claim should arise which causes a problem.

In the current market, it is generally a requirement that details of laptop computers, mobile phones and jewellery with individual value above £1500 should be specified on the policy.

We are only ever as good as our last quote and our last claim, but we do make every effort to ensure that you understand the cover you have is relevant to your circumstances.
