Motor Insurance policies need to be properly structured to give you the cover you need and take into account excess, windscreens, personal goods and restrictions on "other drivers".
When looking at Motor Insurance it is relevant to note the excess required (your contribution to any claim), any restrictions on age of drivers or number of drivers, who is the main driver and whether the vehicle is normally kept in a garage, on a drive or on the road.
It is also worth noting the cover for windscreens as there have been claims rejected because the insurer only considers ‘windscreen’ to be front and rear screen, side windows are not always covered. Another area that can cause problems on claiming is the personal contents of a vehicle. A handbag left on the passenger seat may not be covered if stolen and one of the biggest causes for concern is where keys are left in or on the car while paying for petrol or popping back indoors for whatever it was you forgot, or just leaving the engine running to warm the vehicle up before leaving home.
There are also an increasing number of other restrictions being imposed by insurers, such as the removal of the ‘driving other cars’ extension from several comprehensive policies.
Over recent years there has also been a progressive increase in the cost of Motor Insurance Third Party Fire and Theft cover so that the cost of this, where available, is often little different to the fully comprehensive cover. Some insurers only offer comprehensive cover for older vehicles or some drivers.
We are only ever as good as our last quote and our last claim, but we do make every effort to ensure that you understand the cover you have is relevant to your circumstances whether this is to insure a moped, a car, a classic vehicle or an articulated lorry.
