What are the differences between Public Liability and Professional Indemnity Insurance ?
The physical aspect, someone trips over your doorstep, is obviously public liability but when it comes to design and supply, perhaps for a central heating system, if there is a fault, is it the pipe-work that has failed, or the installation or the basic design which has an inherent fault?
The pipe-work problem can be resolved and could be a public liability claim, the installation could be faulty workmanship, which would not be covered, or it could be a problem that can be passed to the manufacturer of the installation. However, the design and possibly the installation could be the result of something being missed or a specification not being adhered to and that could come under Professional Indemnity.
Therefore we need to have a fairly detailed understanding of what you actually do and then we can advise on what, in our opinion, is the cover required.
